Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited announced the inauguration of its global delivery centre at Chengdu, China. The centre has been setup to provide IT & BPO services to its customers across the nation.

Broadening Wipro’s service capabilities, the new centre will have secured facilities, labs and infrastructure for customer projects and can grow to provide a capacity of 1000 seats. The initial focus, in the first year, would be laid on Testing and Enterprise Application services for the Manufacturing, Banking and Financial Services &Insurance (BFSI) industries. This will complement the services delivered by the existing centre in the city of Shanghai.

The center would provide multilingual services in English, Chinese and Japanese. Chengdu was chosen as a location due to its conducive business environment, talented pool of IT professionals and the city’s excellent infrastructure, informs Wipro in a press release. The center currently employs over 100 people and the IT major plans on increasing this headcount.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sambuddha Deb, Executive vice president and Chief Delivery Officer, Wipro Technologies said, “This facility in Chengdu is one of the global strategic centers that we are creating around the world. Our employees here would be trained in Wipro’s quality processes, technologies & the high global delivery standards that Wipro is renowned for.”

Wipro has been successfully diversifying its footprint in multiple countries and the Chengdu center is a part of its globalization strategy which includes enabling near shore delivery.
